Infliximab is an FDA-approved biologic medication given through an IV (intravenous) infusion. It is available under several brand names, including Remicade®, Inflectra®, Renflexis®, and Avsola®.
Infliximab works by blocking tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), a protein that plays a key role in inflammation. By reducing excess inflammation, infliximab can help improve symptoms, protect healthy tissue, and support long-term disease management for many autoimmune conditions.

What to Expect During Your Infusion
Before You Arrive
- Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment
- Eat a light meal unless your provider tells you otherwise
- Wear comfortable clothing with easy access to your arms
- Bring a book, tablet, or headphones to help pass the time
- Depending on how you feel after treatment, you may wish to arrange transportation home
During Your Appointment
Our team is here to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
- A nurse will review your medical information and answer questions
- Your arm will be cleaned and an IV line placed
- Your infusion will take approximately 2 hours, though timing may vary
- Your vital signs will be monitored during treatment
- Additional observation may be recommended based on medication protocols and your provider’s orders
How Often Will I Receive Infliximab?
You will start with three “loading doses” at weeks 0, 2, and 6, then move to maintenance infusions every 8 weeks. Each infusion takes at least 2 hours, so plan for a chair time of 2 to 3 hours including pre-infusion checks and post-infusion observation.
