Krystexxa® (pegloticase) is an FDA-approved IV (intravenous) infusion for adults with chronic gout that has not responded well to standard oral medications, such as allopurinol or febuxostat.

Krystexxa works differently than most gout medications. It helps lower uric acid by converting it into a substance your body can remove more easily through urine. By reducing uric acid levels, Krystexxa can help decrease the buildup of painful uric acid crystals that cause gout symptoms.

What Conditions Does Krystexxa Treat?

Krystexxa is approved to treat chronic gout in adults whose symptoms and uric acid levels have not been adequately controlled with standard oral medications or who cannot take those medications.

What to Expect During Your Infusion

Before You Arrive

  • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment
  • Eat a light meal unless your provider tells you otherwise
  • Wear comfortable clothing with easy access to your arms
  • Bring a book, tablet, or headphones to help pass the time
  • Depending on how you feel after treatment, you may wish to arrange transportation home

During Your Appointment

Our team is here to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

  • A nurse will review your medical information and answer questions
  • Your arm will be cleaned and an IV line placed
  • Your Krystexxa infusion will run for approximately 2 hours
  • Your vital signs will be monitored during treatment
  • Additional observation may be recommended based on medication protocols and your provider’s orders

How Often Will I Receive Krystexxa?

You will receive 8 mg of Krystexxa as an IV infusion every 2 weeks. Each infusion takes at least 2 hours, so plan for a chair time of 2 to 3 hours including pre-infusion checks and post-infusion observation.

Your Provider Will Send
